Day Trips and Activities in North Goa - WigWam Bohemian Jungle Resort in North Goa

Want to make a change from the Lazy Goa days, and filled Goa nights? We know it’s hard to tear yourself away from the sandy shores, but here is a list of other things to do which we recommend if you want another kind of off-beat adventure… and don’t worry, some of them still include the beach!

Keri (Querim)

Take your bike, and adventure out to the most Northern spot in Goa, and visit sweet, sleepy Keri. Keri gives you an insight into how Goa used to be, with lots of untouched nature, a laid back atmosphere, and lush green fields. The drive out there is awesome itself, find yourself winding past Terekol river, through a quaint and colourful village, bursting with trees, temples, pigs and monkeys, passing smiling locals, and farmers at work. Visit the small and secluded beach, where you can either take a bed and relax, explore the rocks, or you can go paragliding, if you’re in an adventurous mood! From here, you can take a ferry over the river, and explore the Maharastan border. Bring a picnic, and enjoy a beautiful day out, of serenity and exploration!

Old Goa

Too much shanti? Get away from the beach and jungle and take a day trip to Panaji and Old Goa. Step out of Goa, and into Portugal, as you explore these ancient cobbled streets, with colourful shutters, and tiled walls. Eat and drink your way through Tavernas, Restaurants and Bars, and explore typical Goan Cusine in the states capital city. Visit the old Catholic churches of this UNESCO World Heritage Site, or wander the day away through a variety of galleries and museums.

Museum of Goa

One of India’s Largest Contemporary Art Spaces, Museum of Goa celebrates Goa’s history and people through contemporary art. The Museum, founded by Goan artist, Subodh Kerkar, in 2015, seeks to bring art and local history to larger audiences in an attempt to bridge the cultural gap in the country. Apart from taking contemporary art to the larger public, we are also a pedagogical experiment in narrating history.

Redi Fort

Just over the Goan border, Redi Fort  is a magical, tree-entangled ruin that looks out over the scenic beaches of the south Maharashtran coast.

The fort is approached via crumbling gateways leading through the surrounding forest, and past a deep trench that surrounds part of the structure. Once at the main entrance you will pass through several small rooms and corridors, where tree roots cascade over the walls like Rapunzel’s tangled hair. These lead to the huge, roofless inner chambers of the citadel that have long since yielded to nature.

Rarely visited by tourists it is easy to spend hours wandering around this lost fortress. Nothing is here to disturb the silence but the calls of a patrolling troop of langur monkeys, or the sound of the drongo birds.

Chapora Fort

Chapora fort lies in a little ruin state at the edge of Chapora river. The fort stood at its position long back for a military significance during a fight between Portuguese and Marathas, which later lost the value. Surrounded by steep walls, it gives breathtaking views from all the sides including Vagator beach, Chapora river and of course, deep blue ocean. This fort will take you on a journey through different ages of Goa. Take water, and be prepared for a little trek up to the top, surrounded by little market stalls, and wander round the ruins, and take in the views. If you want some fun after, be sure to take a stop in the Chapora bars.

Sweet Lake

Sweet lake is a hidden gem, nestled between Arambol and Keri. To get there, you’ve got to clamber through the rocks at the far end of Arambol beach, which in themselves give you a fantastic view of North Goa’s beaches, and you can see the vast green canopy that lies over our beautiful state. Once you reach the small beach, you can venture over to the back end, and take a refreshing dip in the cool sweet water lake. After your dip, explore the jungle behind, masking yourself in clay in a jungle stream, or hiking up to the impressive Banyan at the top!
